About the apartment
The Garden Apartment sits on the ground floor and has its own entrance. Open the door in the morning and you are standing in the garden — under the old cherry tree, looking up at the vineyards that climb the slope behind the property.
Forty-five square metres hold a separate sleeping area with two beds, a sofa that converts into a third bed, a bright kitchen with a dining table, and a private bathroom. The windows have blackout blinds, the heating runs in winter, and there are extra blankets and pillows in the cupboard.
Outside there is a table and chairs for breakfast in the open air, and a fire pit for the evening. The garden is where guests tend to linger longest — especially in April, when the apricot, cherry and apple trees blossom at the same time.
The apartment suits couples, solo travellers and small groups of up to three. Longer stays are possible from 28 nights, and working at the dining table with a view of the garden turns out to be surprisingly pleasant.

Where you will be
Danube Atelier stands in Rossatz, on the right bank of the Danube in the middle of the Wachau. The building has medieval walls with surviving wall paintings, was converted into the village schoolhouse in the nineteenth century and later served as the kindergarten; we renovated it ourselves, with three apartments and a studio for yoga and Feldenkrais.
Directly opposite, across the river, is Dürnstein with the castle ruin where Richard the Lionheart was held prisoner. The motor ferry takes a few minutes.
The Danube Cycle Path passes the house, the World Heritage Trail starts behind the garden, and the river beaches are a ten-minute walk away. The Rossatz vineyards are within walking distance, and the apricot orchards blossom in early April.

Good to know
The garden and the lounge with its library are shared by all three apartments. Parking behind the house is free.
The church across the road rings its bells at night as well, though more quietly. The village shop opposite is open Monday to Saturday in the morning and closed on Sundays.
During your stay you are welcome to join a yoga or Feldenkrais class in the house.
